He is standing so close now, she can feel his breath on her cheek. He brings his left hand up to her face, brushing along her jaw and resting in her auburn curls. He pulls her closer and upwards, bringing their faces even closer so that he can lean in just enough to kiss her. A peck at first, short and sweet. Then another, a little more intense than the first. This time he doesn't let her pull away, he deepens it, biting her lip. As his tongue probes for entry she feels a sharp pain in her chest. Her heart. Could this be love at first kiss? She parts her lips for him. Is love supposed to hurt? Perhaps a sign of a doomed relationship... Her head is dizzy. Thoughts and feelings tumble over each other in a mad scramble for acknowledgement. He lets her go, and she steps back wobbling a bit. The bones in her legs seem to have jellified."I-" The room spins. Is that a syringe in his right hand? There's a spot of blood on the left breast of her shirt. The ceiling angles strangely and the hardwood dance floor connects solidly with the back of her head. Black. The next day, everything is different. |
